Choice Music Award

4 03 2011

Carpet burns on my knees, two dead batteries, more caffeine ingested than I care to admit and 8gbs of photos. That was the Choice Music Awards for me this year. Two Door Cinema Club took the gong in the end (and gave the 10k prize fund to charity. Nice.), but that was almost immaterial. The Irish Music Scene is f*cking fantastic these days. Adebisi Shank were stomper, James Vincent McMorrow brought the drunk crowd to a silence, Fight Like Apes seemed to win over even Morrissey (Yeah, I know – he’s definitely following me) and Cathy Davey is like a cure for anything.

Anyway, here’s the pictures you were after I take it. There’ll be more from Adebisi and The Cast of Cheers in the coming days, but make do with this batch til then.

(Imelda May wasn’t there, she was in Australia or something, so you won’t find her here. Oh, and if you don’t know who’s who, just leave your mouse hover over a picture for a second and bingo-bango it’ll tell you. Technology, eh? Magics.)

Squarehead, The Workman’s Club 24.02.2011

25 02 2011

Squarehead were on the bill with SPIES and Croupier last night in the Workman’s Club and it seemed like everyone who was super-uber-cool was there.Which explained why I was there. And Morrissey. He was there too. I’ll post that later – I’m currently trying to flog it to d’media folk. In the meantime, enjoy pictures from my new favourite Irish band.

EDIT:

have a .gif too:

Croupier, Friend? and C!ties, Workman’s Club, Dublin, 10.02.2011

11 02 2011

Last night I attended the best gig I’ve been to in a long time. Croupier, Friend? and C!ties played the workman’s club to a fantastic crowd. It was the first time seeing all of these bands live, but it won’t be the last. Excellent performances all around, with a particularly strong set from Friend?.

Before they rang in the new year to a packed house in Whelans, I caught up with Northern Ireland’s greatest instrumental band for a brief photo shoot. So here are: And So I Watch You From Afar in all their high-definition glory.

Arcade Fire & Vampire Weekend, The O2 Dublin, 5/12/2010

7 12 2010

The fine people at Goldenplec were nice enough to sort me out with some passes to Arcade Fire in Dublin this week. Here’s some of the best, with all the rest and some nicer ones too appearing over on GP soon. It was a great gig, crowd were up for it and the support acts were great. Free in to boot!

And some Vampire Weekend:

Snow in Finglas, 2/12/2010

2 12 2010

You know what? Auld Shakin’ Stevens had it sussed. Snow WAS falling all around me. Children were indeed playing – and having fun. So I ventured out for a walk around Johnstown Park in Finglas today. It was gorgeous – and despite the knackers with maligned jaws tossing snowballs at passing cars, it was pretty pleasant to walk about in too. Glad I ‘braved it’ now. And I even added snow there to the ‘site for the time that’s in it.
